BRADDOCK Public School in Cranebrook has won a $1000 short film competition.

Federal MP for Lindsay David Bradbury recently launched the competition: ‘‘What the BER [Building Education Revolution] has meant for our school’’ and donated the prize money.

The finalists were placed on Mr Bradbury’s FaceBook page and the winner decided by the number of votes received.

Braddock Public School won, with 222 votes, narrowly ahead of St Marys South Public School with 210.

The principal of Braddock Public, Loraine Gentleman, said the win provided much-needed funds for the school.

‘‘We are absolutely delighted to be the 2011 winner of David’s short film competition,’’ she said.

‘‘Making this short film provided our students with authentic and challenging literacy strategies that enabled staff to build positive connections with our students’ experiences.’’

Mr Bradbury said the school’s short film was a work of ‘‘professional presentation and creativity’’.

‘‘We received a number of fantastic entries from local primary schools, which made it very difficult to pick a winner,’’ he said.

‘‘I would like to thank all the schools who participated in this year’s competition and congratulate them on producing some terrific short films.’’
