Christopher Bevan, from Meole Village, has been accepted on to a National Youth Film Academy course in Manchester ahead of hundreds of other applicants.

Mr Bevan, 22, who is in his third year of a video production degree at Derby University, has already made about 30 films, including documentaries, music videos and short films.

He said he was looking forward to further developing his skills on the  course in April which involves talks and workshops from industry professionals.

“I’m really excited about it. I have been making films since I was 16. I picked up a camera with no formal training and then decided to take it to the next level,” he said.

“Out of 3,000 applicants, 120 were chosen to go on the course. It is a really, really good opportunity.”

He said the selection process had been a tough one to get through, with only eight directing places available, four in Manchester and four in London. To get a place he had a minute to pitch an idea for a film.
