Film School Online | "Film crew goes to Beyer High"

The spotlight found Beyer High's AdvancePath Academy on Wednesday. A film crew from the AdvancePath Academics Inc. corporate office spent a day at the school creating a promotional video featuring the school as the "Cadillac" example of their program, said Modesto City Schools spokeswoman Becky Fortuna. The company cited strong district and administrative support, as well as the school's high completion rate and philanthropic activities in choosing the Modesto school. AdvancePath offers online courses to help students catch up and graduate.The Stanislaus County Board of Education re-elected Luis Molina as chairman and named Merle Kronberg as vice chairman. It appointed Mary Ann Sanders to represent the board to the Education Foundation of Stanislaus County and Kim Rose to the Association of Stanislaus County School Boards.
The board also honored Col. Mark Denny and Command Sgt. Major Larry Sanchez. Both are leaving the area after helping create the Stanislaus Military Academy alternative education school in Turlock.• • •Friends of the Fair Foundation handed over a check for $25,467 for the California State University, Stanislaus, Agricultural Studies Department during the Stanislaus County Fair Board of Directors meeting in Turlock on Monday night. Selling tickets at $35 each, the foundation raised the money during its ninth Tastes of the Valley Wine and Cheese event in October.• • •Duane Thompson of Anderson's Towing in Ceres received the American Towman ACE Award for service performance. The nation's major motor clubs and dispatch centers — including GEICO, the National Automobile Club, The National Motor Club and NationSafe Drivers — nominated drivers. Thompson received his trophy buckle during an award ceremony in Maryland on Nov. 20.• • •The Civil Air Patrol's Lt. Col. Arthur King Composite Squadron 50 held its annual open house last month in the Monaco Hangar and Museum at Modesto Airport. The event provided a look at the organization and its training opportunities in emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs. The squadron consists of cadets ages 12-18 and senior members 19 and older.
